A Patient’s Knee Replacement Recovery Story
I have been a resident of Medford for many years and couldn't help but notice that a new physical therapy center was establishing itself in the area. Once it opened, Davis Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab quickly became well-known as the go-to place for necessary therapy. While I had hoped I would never need such assistance, my situation changed.
After suffering from arthritis for many years, my knees, especially the right one, became problematic. I knew it was only a matter of time before I would need a knee replacement. On October 14th of this year, I had my right knee replaced.
This was not my first experience with physical therapy, but I can certainly highlight the main difference I noticed at Davis PTSR. During my initial evaluation, the physical therapist was incredibly sincere and welcoming. It quickly became evident that all the staff worked as a cohesive team with the best interests of the patients in mind, genuinely focused on their needs.
My first impression of Davis PTSR was the timely execution of therapy sessions. This was significant because I could see that the therapist took our time together seriously. We both needed to work hard to achieve our goals.
My first day of treatment was challenging. I anticipated it would be tough, and my therapist encouraged me, assuring me that I could succeed. In her gentle way, she motivated me to prove her right and to accomplish all she believed I could.
The first week was difficult. Having not been particularly active for years, starting the stretching and various activities was a challenge. However, the good guidance and patience I received have been crucial to my recovery process.
I have been in therapy for four and a half weeks now. Initially, I was told to expect at least 2-3 months of therapy before feeling comfortable with my new knee. In the time I have spent at Davis PTSR, my therapist has been attentive to my needs and feelings. She has challenged me appropriately, never pushing me to the point of discouragement. Her positive attitude and evident expertise have greatly contributed to my success.
Each day represents a new step forward toward a positive outcome. I still have a long way to go, but I am confident in both the program and my trainers. I will emerge stronger, with some new healthy habits and friendships that will last even after I graduate. It feels great to already be walking without a cane, knowing I will only grow stronger in the coming weeks.
Three phrases that come to mind when I think of Davis PTSR are:
You'll hate the physical therapists at first.
You'll really thank them in the end.
You'll become a better person because you confidently went through the healing process with gratitude.
Often, expecting more from yourself is sidelined by everyday responsibilities or simply by complacency. However, if you push yourself to expect more, you will achieve more by the end of the day—resulting in a truly rewarding outcome.
